2 F-12 questions

Continuing to work here and there on my 1937 F-12. I have 2 questions. First, I just put the flat belt pully on. does it turn all the time, except when the clutch is in? I tried the PTO shifter, and the PTO shifts, but the pulley runs all the time except when the clutch is in (which I would expect it to stop when the clutch is in).

Second question. I need to replace the brake lever (actuater) shafts. It appears to me that I have to remove the top of the tranny cover. Has anyone replaced these, and do you have any tips? I didn't find anything about the shafts, only about the brake shoes.

Thoughts or comments are appreciated.

The belt pulley runs continuously, only stopping when the clutch is disengaged. Many were put on only when needed and a cover was put over the turning shaft.

The brake shafts have levers that clamp on inside the transmission case so you have to open her up to get them out.

36F30, thanks for the info. I kinda figured that was the case on both questions, but wanted to be absolutely sure before I take the deck off.

I am sure the gasket will be an arm and a leg..........

Cowman, I agree. I already called Gordon Rice, and he doesn't have any. So, I'll see what the original looks like when I get the deck off. More than once, I have added a very thin line of silicone on old gaskets, and have yet to have one leak. I also have used just straight silicone with decent results.

Now I need to find the brake actuater shafts, or have these spray welded and turned down. They are very badly worn where the brake lever's are. Bushing may be an option also.

When I replaced the top on my O-12 I bought a sheet of cork gasket material and cut a new gasket, after 10 years no sign of a leak.
Watch for the two dowels half-way along the long sides in the top cover, they tend to want a bit of coaxing in order to get the top off.

We use a lot of "ThreeBond Gray" sealant on our Model T's. They must be the leakiest cars ever made :-D.
Sets up well, does not turn to gooey lumps as silicone can do, and does not let oil out either !
Cheers
Adrian
