I have a farmall A that i have almost full restored, but it came without the grill, and ive been having trouble finding one in price range... What Farmall Model grilles would fit on a Farmall A tractor?

The A and Super A, excluding the Super A-1. You can get refurbished grills from Bates Corp for $450. But, as much work as mine took to get it "perfect", I should have bought a new one.

I have a grill off an A how good or bad it is I can not say with out going out and looking at it. Send me an e-mail if you want to know more about it

There were at least 2 versions of the A grill. The early ones used the Dzus fasteners. The later were held with capscrews. I don't remember how different they were, but they were different. There may have even been 2 versions of the Dzus fastener grill, I no longer remember. The later style, held with capscrews, is essentially the same as the Super A.

I bought one of the grille restore tool sets off ebay. i did a "A" grille with it and was pleased. It does not do thelarge areas on top and bottom, but for the 2 different size horizontal grille middle part, it does a top notch job. The screen material can be phased as well as the clips.

what needs to be done to your current grille to bring it "back to life"?

The tools you mentioned are what Bates used. Their job on the cross pieces on the grill was pretty good. I used some body filler in places. They did nothing else except put some primer on it that I had to remove, then fill the dents in the rest of the grill and get rid of the rust pits. They did do a good job fitting the grill screen. I saved about $200, but added $300 worth of labor, if I didn't do it myself.

The very early fasteners were different from later ones as they had one clear underneath on the bottom then later had the bottom vastener below the crank hole thur needing a different crank brackeet.

well i am without a grill, i bought the tractor
without it... ive got everything painted up, but now
i need a grill to top it off and complete it, and im
a highschool student so i dont have 300 400 laying
around for a grill. i asked because someone wanted
50 for a bn grill, but i learned it will not fit
without cutting out for the steering, which i dont
want to do. im just making sure what fits the a so
when i see the right one im sure about it, before i
buy the grill. thanks everyone

Matt, don't give up hope yet. You still may want to consider the BN hood. The cutting you need to do is not that bad. Actually, if you were to take your time, you could also grind it off. There is not that much material that you have to remove, and in all honesty, once you are done, no one would probably know the difference.

I will be heading to Burgh's in the next week or two, and I'll see if he has any for a decent price, that are restorable.

Feel free to send me an email offline, and maybe I can fix you up.

You're going to learn that life is about compromises.

The compromise here is that you don't have a lot of money for a grille, and you want this project finished NOW. That means you take what you can get, which is that BN grille.

Even if it's a major modification (it isn't), your time and work are free. The right grille is going to cost you $450, which is $400 more than you've got. Even if you muck up the modification (you won't, because it's not a huge change), it will be better than a bare radiator.

Fine if you are talking about a Super C. But the original question was about a Super A.
