Brake Problems

I am talking about a Farmall 706.

I am still trying to get my Brakes to work Properly. I did a post last weekend and Pete23 Responded that to bleed my brakes just start the engine, and push pedal down about 1/2 way and hold and Open the bleed valve until no air was present. I bleed both wheels about a cup of fluid each per direction. But my right wheel acts as the brake is stuck. I can move the tractor, but it feel like the brake is dragging. If I move the tractor around some the drum gets very warm after moving around the barns. The left brake feels better but sponging. If I apply the brakes while moving, I can lock up the right with very little pedal movement, The left is about 1/2 movement to apply. The right pedal tractor setting still, engine running feels like it fights to push on pedal. The left does not have the same feeling.

Any Thoughts? Thanks for you Support?

Have you adjusted the brake valve at the pedal. You want to have a loose pin when brake pedal is against platform. Actually the book always called for adjusting the valve out until pin was just loose(beginning to pull valve stem out of brake valve) and then tightening it a half turn or so but I prefer a loose pin so you always know where you are at. You can easily tell if hydraulic pressure is what is causing your brake to drag by opening the bleeder when running and driving and if it does not drag then it is valve related, if it still drags it is mechanical inside of brake itself. I always use a hose and run the fluid right back into tractor dip stick hole so you can do these tests with out making a mess. Brake valves have been known to have a screw back out inside and keep them from releasing. As these brakes have self adjusters inside of the brake drum itself that is another issue . At any rate, you have to determine that the discs are free with some clearance internally. You can jack wheel up off ground also to tell if dragging when not running. Lot of different ways to approach this.

Thanks Pete23.

I will check the Pin on the Pedal tomorrow. I just measured the brake travel, I believe it was 4 1/8 inches from platform per manual. I did have the left drum off and cleaned up everything inside. Replaced seal and O'ring when putting back together. I took it off because the platform bolt was broke off in the drum, I drilled it out and helicoiled it. The brakes are suppose to be self adjusting? Thanks for the pointers.
