Carb problems on a Farmall H ('47)

I'm having problems with the tractor acting like it's running out of fuel. It will run under load for 3-4 minutes then stall. If I wait a minute or two, it will start up again and the cycle repeats.

Here's what I did so far:

1. Cleaned sediment bowl, screen, and valve.
2. Disassembled carbuerator and replaced float needle valve.
3. Replaced air/fuel mixture valve.
4. Replaced idle screw.
3. Cleaned carb thoroughly.
4. It looks as if I'm getting fuel to carb, however it's not flowing like a garden hose but more like a fast dribble.

After putting the carb back together it ran for about 15 minutes and then acted up again.

I'm at a loss right now. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,
Bill

Just went thru the same problems you described with my "46 H. It was starving for fuel. Turned out not enough fuel was getting thru the fuel shut-off valve. Took the tank off and cleaned it well as well as took the fuel shut off valve off and cleaned it out good. I think it had gotten gummed up over time. Put it all back together today and it runs like a champ again. Hope this helps.

Fast dribble is not enough -- check the screen in the fitting on the carb that the fuel line screws into. Be sure the opening going out of the tank is not partially plugged.

sounds like you have it all covered --now pull the fuel line and run a piece of wire through it-- check your carb screen(as the other gentleman said)--take a flashlight and look in your tank for anything thats not suposed to be there(once had a soybean in my 340 drove me nuts, found 5 grains of corn in an m couple months ago, have an h now with a gas spout broken off in it)if you have an inline gas filter ,blow it out a little water in there will shut your fuel off

I had a similar problem with my F-12. Would run for 2-3 mins, then die. I took the valve of the bottom of the fuel tank, and it was plugged with crud. Not solid plugged, but enough that it would not let fuel flow freely.

I cleaned the valve out and flushed the tank. Problem fixed.

Thanks for everyone"s suggestions! The problem was indeed flakes in the inlet side of the sediment bowl. I cleaned it out and she runs pretty good now. Only thing is I don"t think I needed to rebuild the carb in the first place! Oh well, cheap experience and fun at the same time.

Thanks again,
Bill
