High oil pressure D282

Just finished a complete rebuild on a 560 D282 and everything went slick! Started up fine and sounds good. At that point I checked the oil pressure guage and saw it was pegged to the right at 45 psi. First question:is a 45 psi the correct guage for the D282? Seems low to me. Second question:can running at a high pressure do any damage? I also took apart the oil check valve on the filter base and it seems to be moving freely.

All the D282s I have been around will hold about 35-40 PSI hot, cold, idling, or wide open throttle.
I have seen worn out ones hold 35 at hot idle.

The original gauge on the 560s was a 0-45 psi gauge. Hasn't been available from CIH for many years as far as I know. The replacement is a 0-75 psi gauge.

Sounds like a good tight 282. If in doubt, replace the gauge with a higher reading one. If not over 50 psi, I wouldn't worry.
