I have a 44 m farmall with power steering , has the behlen unit and a belt driven pump , when i first installed it worked great , drove around for 10 minutes or so and then the steering got hard again. and the unit was really hot ? can anyone tell me why this is happening

A stuck internal valve, a collapsed (internally) hose, or a kink in a steel line can be the cause. Low oil level/leak is also a possible problem. Jim

thanks for the advise, have checked the lines and hoses are fine , was wondering if i needed a bigger resevoir of oil
. unit holds almost 2 quarts counting hoses and power steering units

Probably not. that is substantial, and the system is not displacing fluid into a one way device.
I suspect a sticking valve in the torque generator (unit with the steering shafts as input output.) Jim

thanks for the advice, any suggestions how to free the sticky valve? I tryed hooking up the steering unit to my hydraulic pump as a test and it worked great , had to raise the lift lever and it worked fine , just a test though
