I seem to have misplaced first gear. I haven"t taken the shifter cover off yet, but is there an adjustment on the lever that is not letting it go all the way into gear??

Might have the nut off the transmission counter shaft. That allows the shaft to move forward and first gear drops off the back end of the splines.

If it happend all at once loosing first gear in all ranges, most likely nut came off the counter shaft dropping first gear down. Happened to me on my 1486 two years ago. If that is the case, you will have to replace the counter shaft also. My TA was bad also so had it all fixed at the same time. Parts and labor ran me $2,685.00 for it all, transmission fix, TA, front pump, clutch & pressure plate and labor.
