M-TA diesel efficiency

Can anyone give information on Super M-TA diesel engine fuel consumption (economy)? When compared to other makes of engines, is the M-TA diesel known to be a fuel mizer, hog, or does it depend entirely on who tunes the injector pump? My uncle had a Massey Ferguson with a Perkins which he swore had the best economy of any diesel. Does anyone know how the Super M-TA diesel compares?

Thanks

More mizer than hog, I'd say. Mine wouldn't use a gallon of diesel fuel per hour plowing with 3-14's and disking with a 10 ft disk as I remember.

It is a good low compression (~16:1) diesel (meaning it is more economical than gasoline engines, and it was as good on fuel as its contemporary fellows. The Nebraska tractor tests can give fuel at rated power per hour for almost all tractors. A modern direct injection high compression diesel with turbocharger can out perform these by 10% or more.
