I need a set of points and there are no tags on the dist. Is there a way to find out? It is a 56 300 with no tach. My points broke 15 seconds after unhooking from the sled at the pulls. She took 1st place and then laid down and died. She did good but my JD 620 had to drag it across the scales.

All points and condensers for IH distributers are the same, the difference is in the advance curve.

I ask because the local parts store Autozone ( I know , I know, they were the only one open today ) said the 300 listed several different brands of dist and they all took different points. From what I have seen I have the IHC dist. The parts pictures look to match my rotor, dust cover, and point style.Just making sure. I will call NAPA tommorow and have them bring up the points for a IHC dist. Thanks!!

Actually there are two different sets of points for the IH distributors. One fits the four cylinders and the other is used for six cylinder engines. The four cylinder set has the stationary point with just a ninety degree bend. the six cylinder stationary point is also ninety degrees but is also offset about the width of the bracket. Also the rubbing blocks are installed just opposite of each other on the movable part of the point set.

IH iron housing distributors 4 or 6 cyl up to & including 4/560 took IH 407018R91 points & cond. The 706/856 iron housing 6 cyl took 407062R91 set, replacement from parts was a Prestolite aluminum or die cast housing that took another type but by then Diesel out sold gas by a wide margin. If I had a penny for all the 407018 sets I sold I would have a lot of money.

Best to stay away from Advance Auto, Autozone, etc. NAPA is ok as is Tractor supply, etc. I really prefer my CaseIH dealer, though.

I usually use Napa. I only do autozone in a pinch. THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE RESPONSES!! I knew I would get an answer.
