H axels leaking oil

Oil is dripping on the end of axel housing.If i take the hub off and then the cap on the end of housing can i get the seal out and put a new one in?Or is it going to be way more involved than that?

That is all there is to it. The end cap is the seal retainer. Clean up the axle really good, and make sure there are no burrs that can cut the new seal.

Its way more than that. The oil is coming from the tranny and thats where the leak is not supposed to be coming out the end of the axle that area does not have tranny grease there. You need to remove the axle housings to get to the seal. Only lube at the end would be grease from the outer bearing no tranny oil.

gene -- your answer is for a C. The H axle does not have an inner seal.

OK guess imn wrong wont be the first time thought i had read about the tranny seals on the H. So you are saying the H has tranny oil in the housing all the way to the outside bearing and seal.
