Type of Glue Recommended for Brake Lining

Purchased new brake lining for a 1928 McCormick-Deering 10-20. It has one hand brake. What type of glue should I use to glue the new brake lining to the metal hand brake band?
The brake lining is non-metallic. Would prefer not to rivet.
Thanks Wayne Wiseman

Brake bond is an epoxy, and I am not sure if it is available retail. It is not a difficult job to rivet, why not do that? The next time "baby needs new shoes", it will be a real chore to replace them if you epoxy them on.

I would strongly suggest you rivet them. It is not a hard job, and is actually "correct" as the originals were rivetted. Don't forget, brake lining can crack and you can lose chunks of it, so you wouldn't even have to wear the lining out to possibly have to replace it.

However, 'tis your tractor. JB weld just might be the ticket.

As always, IMHO.

Go to Steiner website. If you don't like riveting they have a little tool for brake liners that will make it real easy for you.

Tough, but not for heat. It takes a special material (two part is for sure), but it might be a phenolic type adhesive. Get it from a crane or rigging repair shop. Jim

Just drill some holes and get some brass rivets and do the job rite. You done have a press to hold the linning tight and warm enough to get a good bond. Do the rivets and you will never do them again. You are taking a big chance on getting some glue strong enough to hold for yrs of service. I river mine for the As and Bs not hard to do.
