Guy I know has been using a paper filter in the sediment bowl on his tractors. NAPA part # 3034
its about 1 and 1/2 in. long & sits in top of bowl has a larger paper top & gasket. maybe i'm wrong. but does anyone think this can filter any better than the sediment bowl itself.? i don't know if this is made for this or something else.
does anyone know about these? Thanks

I have seen lots of that type filter on small Kubota and Yanmar diesels in turf equipment. The bowl gets the water and the filter gets the trash. Haven't seen one on a gas engine.

Despite what you read on this forum IH realized that sediment bowl and screen let some trash through and put second screen in carburatot inlet.

ALL tractor carburetors have that filter screen in the fuel inlet. It was not just IH.

(quoted from post at 08:09:51 08/21/10) Yes and all old tractors have sediment bowls.

But not all older cars and trucks had a sediment bowl (some did) but nearly all of them did have a filter element of some type located inside the fuel inlet, which was in addition to the "sock" filter in the gas tank.

How many times have you ever found trash in the carb screen? I have been around the letter series IHs since the mid '50s and can only recall2-3 times I found anything in the carb inlet screen. Screen in the top of the sediment bulb housing & the sediment bulb always seemed to do the job for me. But then we have filters, and always have had, on our bulk tanks. I ill admith that the first thing I do now when I buy a letter series IH is to remove thesediment housing & fir a piece of 1/4" copper tubing into the inlet side so it will stick up 1/2" - 3/4" into the gas tank.

Dozens of times. You may abide by warning on gas caps (BUY CLEAN FUEL KEEP IT CLEAN) but back when we were running Hs and Ms for real we had mostly hired hand drivers and sometimes they were not too carefull when carrying fuel to field in cans.
