I have a 1970's 160 Schramm air compressor tractor built on a Farmall C transmission and rear end. The engine is a 6 cylinder IHC gasoline engine with three cylinders powering the other thee to compress air. I'm having trouble getting it to run past idle, it sputters and dies when I try to increase the speed.

We've rebuilt the carb, blown out all passages and I still have the problem. Does anyone know what engine was used in these tractors? I need to find a service manual to get specs for it.

Thanks, Greg

Sounds like it may be running too lean.does it run better with the choke out?how are the throttle bushings;any yacumeleaks?it could also be anignition problem

Are you sure that the engine is based on an IH product? There were alot of different Schramm compressors and I believe some of them were designed and built from scratch by their engineers.

I'd be looking for casting numbers on the block, water pump, etc. Plug them into google and see what happens. "Schramm" is very searchable on this forum. Check out all those posts. Some of that info may not be correct, however.

It's a wonder that I don't own a Schramm. I like multi-function stuff and used to be in the sandblasting business. I guess I felt that they would never hold up against the screw compressors that were starting to dominate the market.

Schramm is still in business. Talk to them. Find someone who has been there awhile.

Thanks everyone, I'll see if I can't find out something from Schramm. Perhaps my speculation about it being an IHC engine is incorrect.

Hal, unfortunately there is no main jet to open.

I too have been suspecting the ignition. It's a Bendix magneto of a military flavor.
