A couple days I posted about baling with my SM,and how much I enjoyed it.

I've noticed that most balers on this forum are PTO driven. Here in Washington state we mostly used balers that were self powered, generally Wisconsin V-4s.
Was there a geographical preference?

Agree, here in sjv ca we used vg4d's then on to the overhead valved wisconsin, then graduated to the Duetz deisel. Now must are big bales with pto big balers with 150 plus h.p. tractors. Tony

Great pictures, Don't see that much anymore around here.Takes me back to a good place in farming career. Tony

Thanks for sharing the photos. I see your Super M has a frame rail tool box on the left side. Do you know the name of those as I'm looking for a couple of them and wanted to place an ad but didn't know what they are called. I bought one several years ago from someone in Iowa and was told they weren't an IH product but an aftermarket add on by someone and had a name by which they are known. The one I bought had a painted spray stencil of some IH dealership in Minnesota so guess dealers used them to promote their business as well. Anything you can share will be most appreciated, Hal.

I have bought several just like that one at Mills Fleet Farm, a farm supply chain store. Comes with the mounting brackets needed.

Thanks for the response and where might Mills Fleet Farm stores be located? Do you have any contact information that I could use to contact them. When you mention the mounting brackets are they the type that mounts to the frame rails and the box has a couple of open areas that slides down over the brackets? The purpose for being so removable is so you can take the box of tools back to whatever you are working on but the down side of that is the tool box can bounce off the brackets on rough ground. Thanks again for whatever info you can share, Hal.

Mills Fleet Farm stores are headquartered in Wisconsin. There is one in Owatonna, MN and another in Lakeville, MN.

Thanks for the response. Is the lid on your box 6" wide by 18" long or there abouts? The two I have are that size with a hole through the latch for a padlock if you wanted them locked. I'm getting vinyl cut decals made up with the name of the long ago IH dealership in town that sold all the Farmalls in this part of Missouri. I am just putting their name, city and state, along with their old 3-digit phone numbers of 70 years ago along with an IHC logo decal on the lids. I have a few more letter series Farmalls I would like to do the same with so am going to try and locate a few more if possible. Thanks again, Hal.

Going to be in Minnesota next year in Albert Lea for the RPRU. What are my chances of seeing one near there? I have a some good Farmall friends in Wisconsin that I could contact as well not all that far from Madison. I'll give the search engines a look for what I can find on them as well, thanks, Hal.

Hal--here is a site that has the universal toolbox. I have a side rail on the Super M without the hasp! Tears levi belt loops but the toolbox has been there quite awhile. Will keep my eyes out here for one and let you know if there is any success. Missed you at the RPRU in LaPorte--I wasn"t there long. My Uncle came with me and we had a ball. He broke his back a few years ago and couldn"t take all the walking so we only got to spend 4 hours or so but got to see Howard and the Cowbaord Tent--what a great display! Hope all is well with you! Steve

I was raised in Iowa and most around home had engines on them until most tractors had IPTO on them, late '50s/early '60s, then engine driven models became fewer. Dad had one of the first NH 77s around home and it had a Wisconsin V-4 on it. Same with pull type combines.

Steve, Nice to hear from you and thanks for the information and I looked at the site but without dimensions I don't know what the size or mounting requirements might be. These toolboxes I have I believe were made by a company in Iowa back in the hey-day of the Farmall H and M tractors. I believe there is a name that goes with them but it has certainly escaped me now. Glad you made the RPRU and we left Thursday afternoon as our hotel lost power during the storm the night before and the staff there didn't seem to have a clue about what to do and without any kind of commitment to get it restored couldn't think of staying there with nothing working. Looking forward to Albert Lea next year and I guess we will never forget the heat and sweat we went through in 2005 in Tennessee at the RPRU. Take care, Hal.
