Cub suddenly dies

Hi all, I just rebuilt the mag on my Cub and have a problem. The tractor will run fine for a while and stop just as if the switch where turned off, but I can restart it immediately. I will be checking the fuel flow and carb of course but has anyone experinced a problem with the new replacement parts for the mag? I have heard that the condensors that they are making are not of really good quality; is this true and would it be prudent to go back to the old one (I will be testing it). Also are Cubs Known for vapor lock it was a pretty hot day here today.
any other ideas?
Thanks!

You could try the old condenser, but I think you have a fuel problem since it will restart. Pull the gas line at the carburetor and see if there's a full stream of gas from the tank. If there's full stream from the tank remove the tube fitting at the carburetor and see if there's a screen behind that fitting that's plugged. If that looked ok your carburetor probably needs to be soaked in carb cleaner and the jets blown out with air pressure. Hal

Did the Cub run before you rebuilt the mag?

May not be your problem but when its hot out my cub will die and if I take the gas cap loose it will start right up very easy and run for another hour or so then do it agian. I need to put a vented cap on mine.

it could also be a "sticky" float or possibly an intermittent short on the wire to the mag.

I agree, check fuel flow first. then ground wire to mag.

I have had two very nice days to work on it but have had to baby sit 6 month old grand daughter instead. Not complaining though cause I sure enjoy her but I am itching to get at that thing. Farmallhal is mailing me some info on the hydraulic system and my plan is to pull the pump and see if it's sheared a key for my first step.

Paul, I mailed you a copy of the manual this morning from the post office in town. Our mail is all routed to Springfield for sorting and on from there. You should receive it by Friday I would think. Good luck in resolving the problem and let us know what you find, Hal.

Sounds like the same problem I had with my 140 -

Seems like rust would plug up screen on sediment bowl - got tired of stopping and starting, cleaning rust.

Solution: removed sediment bowl and shutoff - installed in-line filter - you can probably find some kind of shutoff that would work for you.

I even swished fiberglass resin around in the tank to no avail. Imagine keeping tank full would inhibit the rust problem.
