what is different in the 1961 240 123 then the 1953 super c 123? 240 has 31 hp super c has 23.7. Is it possible to rebuild the super c to the 240 spec s?

The head is diferent and they just increaed the RPM. Bore and stroke are the same. Depending on the block the OD of the sleeve was different as the 240 block could use a 3 1/4 bore. Later SCs would also take the 3 1/4 bore. So you need to measure the sleeve at the bottom when replacing. You can increase the SCs RPMs some but to get the same JP as the 240 you need the 249 head on the SC.

According to Tractor Data, the 240 had 28.32 HP, not 31. It did however run at 2000 RPM vs 1400 for the Super C. I didn't see a compression ratio on the 240, but the 230 had 6.8-1 vs 6.1 on Super C. So it looks like the major difference is in the rpm. So, take it from there whether you can get higher rpms by using the other governor, or adjusting the governor... I don't know.

If you want more power you can look up the part# on the block that will tell ya if you could go to the 3 1/4hi-dome sleeves and pisrons and with more RPMs get around 30 pluss HP then change the head and get more.

7 years ago I put 3 1/4 high dome pistons, planned the head, Denny"s pulling carb, 12 volt system, electronic ignition, thunder volt coil, stiffer governor spring,8mm plug wirers, and Bosch plugs. Dynoing at 36 HP. 1st place winner in the 3500 lb class. This is a 51 Super C.
