Farmall A trans trouble

Tractor wouldn't move one morning. Removed top cover found alum oil gear destroyed.think this gear should be splined to main shaft. Has anyone else had this problemm and how hard is it to find a new gear.
Thanks!

New gear I can not say but that tranny is the same as on the B/BN and A and I also think if I remember right the C. I know I have at least one good or was good tranny from a B laying around and might have 2.

Very common for that gear to self destruct. I know it is manufactured by aftermarket companies. Probably can still buy it from CIH at a premium price. Check with salvage yards to. BTW that gear does not transmit power and would not cause your tractor not to move. Was there pieces of it jamming other gears?

My understanding is that the aluminum oil slinger gear is there to move oil up to the little cast trough that directs the oil to the PTO bearing, to lubricate the PTO when the tractor is stationary. If you are not using the PTO, or if you are only using the PTO with the tractor in gear, you won't hurt anything by not replacing it. That said, they are available from several sources, as others have mentioned.

That gear has a bushing that rides on the adjacent gear hub. It is turned by the gear it engages on the upper (input) shaft.
