Wire question for Letter series tractors

I am getting ready to re-wire a number of my letter series tractors. I know how to wire it, what I am looking for is the original tracer colors on the wires, and what guage they different circuits are.

maybe I am being too precise, but I would like to make these right, and I am getting ready to order the cloth covered wire to do this right.

Anyone know a source where I can find this info?

If you're using cloth colored wires, there are no colors.

Agri-Services of Alden NY makes reproduction OEM-style harnesses, supposedly "original" style. Dad bought one for his Super H. All the wires were the same color and cloth covered.

Contrary to Mkirsch's answer, the original cloth covered wiring harness does have different colored wires. There are both different colors and different tracer colors woven in the wires. You can get a correct colored cloth set from O.E.M. Tractor Parts. Also if you have any questions about which harness is correct for your particular tractor, they will be very helpful.

thanks guys, I appreciate the updates. I do know that the original wires had tracer colors. I have already bought the loom, and will be making my own harnesses.

What I am looking for is the data that indicates the wire guage and tracer colors for each of the circuits, ie. Lights, Gen to Bat, Switch to Mag, etc.

I am guessing that 16 AWG is good for lights. 10AWG is good for GEN. I would have thought that there is a manual or similar that would indicate AWG and tracer color.

The reference I have here is the instruction manual for the lighting and/or starting attachment for the A and B (1941). I would guess the same or similar for other models of the same time frame. It appears that the wires inside the loom had tracers. The ones that were just a single cable evidently didn't. At least the parts descriptions don't list tracer colors for the single cables. That makes sense. If it doesn't disappear inside a loom, it should be fairly easy to find the other end of the same wire.

In the loom:
Switch to headlamp - black (splice inside loom for second headlamp)
generator field to switch - natural with black tracer
gen to ammeter - natural with red and black cross tracers

Not in the loom, unspecified color:
ammeter to starter
switch to rear lamp
battery cables
ammeter to switch
gernerator field jumper (if no lights).

This same information is in the Parts Catalog for the A and B. It is probably in the others as well.

Thanks Jim, that is what I have been looking for. I have the A/B parts catalog, and never thought to look there.

thanks again, and to everyone else who responded.
