Sway bars on IHC 240

Need to find a way to stop the sway on my 2pt hitch ,the 2pt hitch(with 3pt coversion)sways from side to side and rubs the tires is there a part missing? How and with what can I stop this?

There is a more complicated than nessessary system for anti-sway on these... not even sure where to start explaining it. There is a cross shaft on the bottom rear of the differential case that is double hinged, with a triangular shaped plate welded to the right end. There is a hole near the right end of the shaft and a hole and slot in the plate. Then there are a pair of bars with holes that is pinned to an eye bolt in the right 3 point or Fast-hitch arm and they are then pinned to the triangular plate and end of the cross shaft. Pinned in the slot and the sway is limited, pinned in the holes and it is solid. I know this is impossible to picture, but like I said, it's complicated. A parts manual is helpful if you can find one. Must be 20-25 parts to do a simple thing.

Go to one of the on-line parts books and see which parts you are missing. None of the parts are available new. You will have to look for used parts.Look on-line for places that sell used parts and start calling. It helps to have the part numbers. You might have to machine some of them.

Since you called it an IHC and not a Farmall, I am assuming you mean a 240U and I know they have some parts because I got my steering parts from them. I don't know how many parts are common to the Farmall and International. It's hard to believe ALL the anti-sway parts are missing, so the parts breakdown would sure be helpful. There should be a 7/8 course thread hole on the inside of the right arm, about 4" below and forward of where the right side leveling screw lift arm attaches, with a cast eye bolt screwed in it... is that there? The brackets attached with 4 bolts (two up high and 2 low) to both sides of the differential housing that is the lift arm pivot should extend about 2 or 3" below the differential housing and the "double hinged" shaft I refered to in my previous post should attach there... is any of that there? the cross shaft there is about 13 or 14" long and about 1 1/2" in diameter extending out the right side with a hole through it and the odd shaped plate with the slot and hole in it is welded to that... any of that there? If that is all there, then all you are missing are the two plates and pins to attach the odd shaped plate to the eye bolt.
On mine, the eye bolt had been broken off and I recently got it welded back together. Also, at some time the cross shaft was replaced with one (you can tell by the sloppy weld job to weld the plate back on) that does not have the hole drilled through it. I need to pull the shaft out and get it on a drill press or mill and drill the hole... then mine can go back together right.

(quoted from post at 18:35:16 08/15/10) No eye bolt ,no side plates.Does anyone have any?

A tractor salvage like JP is your best bet. So you DO have what the book calls a "Shaft, lateral swing, assembly", the shaft with the plate welded to it? If so you are only missing parts 14 thru 19 in parts book TC-53...

522 950 R1 Pin, lateral swing strap to shaft
13 095 R1 Pin, cotter 1/4 x 1-1/4"
522 150 R1 Strap, lateral swing, upper, w/pin
523 150 R1 Strap, lateral swing, lower
522 916 R11 Pin, lateral swing, lockout
525 590 R1 Eye-bolt, lateral swing
522 951 R1 Pin, lateral swing, strap to eye-bolt
13 095 R1 Pin, cotter 1/4 x 1-1/4"

(Cotter pins are not included in the 14-19 parts)

I will say that the straps would be easy to duplicate if you had some to pattern off of. Some strap iron, a big vice and a torch, and a drill press and you could make the straps, and bolts could work for the pins.

To answer your other post, the SC thru 230 Fast hitch is completely different from the 240U. This may partly be because the 240 also had a 3 point available and some of the parts are common to both F-H and 3 point. Also the 240U had a half-a$$ed draft control (Tel-A-Depth).
If I had only kept the S-55 Oliver I had :( ... it was soooo simple compared to this, and had a great draft control. Had anti-sway bars just like a Ford.
