H wiring issue

This could be a long explanation. last week starting the H we were putting it on tdc i leaned over from the other side and put my hand on the generator and it was really hot. so we took it off thinking something was wrong and later got her started. I took the gen in to get it tested and the guy said it was fine so I figured it was my rewiring job. got a diagram off here and rewired it to the diagram but i noticed on the amp guage it showed a charge when it wasn't running and it didn't have the gen on. soo i wired it back to original and it was still doing the same thing when the lights are on when not running. havn't put the gen back on but i guess my question is what would make it say its charging and make the gen hot???(we had only cranked the engine over like 5 times when it got hot) very much appreciative for the help

6 or 12 volt? Did you put the battery in wrong? Should be + ground with 6 volt generator. Cut-out points are stuck together.

It's a 6 volt but i had negative ground. it
s been negative ground for a long time and worked fine. i thought that might be a problem myself. ill have to check it out tomorrow. thanks for the feedback

As far as generator getting hot, had a similar problem on a Ferguson TO30 with 6v system. Regulator went bad with field stuck and fried the generator. Gen got so hot you couldn't touch it. 150 bucks later problem solved. Allan.
