240 IH rings

I need some advise on rings for my 240 IH, I placed one of my std size rings half way down the cyl and got a ring gap of .0028 the spec say the
gap should be .0010 - .0020 should I send these rings back and order an oversize ring? what size?
what is the proper way to measure the cyl to get
the proper rings. thanks for you opinions Steve

Measure your sleeves. Bet they are worn out of specs. Correct repair is new piston and sleeve set.

If you do not a micrometer to check cylinder wear you can get close by measuring the ring gap at the very bottom of the cylinder and then again about a half inch down from the top. Take the difference and divide by three.
