300U exhaust conversion

i'm planning on putting a new exhaust manifold on my 300U and i will be going thru the top instead of the original under slung. my question is the pipe coming out of the manifold and thru the hood will be like a 2 inch I.D. but the muffler i have is a 1 5/8 size which i just bought, would there be any reason i could not use this muffler once i found the right size adaptor?

It would probably be O.K. to use that smaller inlet muffler, but why? The correct muffler is readily available from a multitude of sources and is NOT costly at all.

Before I would a cut hole in the hood for the exhaust I would see if I could cut the orginal exaust under the tractor and with elbows bring the pipe up on the outside of the side rail like the new style tractors do. I did that on my backhoe and it wroked great. If you need new manifold You can get the orginal style exhaust manifold. Armand
