i have just bought a farmall 400 at auction come to find out after i drove it and forgot the E brake that the TA slips is this just an adjustment and if not do i have split the tractor to work on it? thanks nick

Get ready for a double split.

Howsomever, I bought a 400 that appeared to have a slipping TA. When I checked the oil, it appeared to be something akin to roofing tar. I replaced it and that fixed the problem.

There are a few adjustments on the linkages but if the oil is ok you are in for a big job to replace a few small parts on the inside.

If you are saying that you parked the tractor in gear without setting the brakes with the TA lever back and it rolled, that is perfectly normal. If it rolls with the lever ahead, then you have problems. The TA uses a one-way clutch on the low side. The forward side is direct drive and is locked together with a small clutch.
