Last week the berrig went out on the sterring worm gear on my super m. when it went out it just fell apart in turn breaking off the retainer cap on the end so I still have to get out the rest of the cap any indeas? Cause i need to get a new berring put in it. Also any ideas on where to get a new berring the dealer wants $85 for the berring and $31 for that retainer cap
 
Take the bearing to a bearing supply house and they will measure it. It is a very common size. As for the retaining cap, almost any salvage yard should have one.
 
go to napa and get a 205 bearing. the one that your ih dealer wants to sell you is a expensive thrust bearing. the 205 will last your lifetime for around ten dollars or less.
 
ST225/ST678 is old Case/IH part numbers, if your tractor doesnt have a heavy load on front such as loader cheap ST225 is fine, if loader or whatever & you depend on it and plan to keep it you might consider the good ST678, with power steering and front loader there was a reason IH had this bearing available. Being a parts counter guy for 37 years we would explain this, otherwise if it failed with the cheap one, invariably they say you didnt tell me all that.
