My 47 W6 restoration is about complete ,but now the clutch is stuck in the engaged position. Before I take it apart to remove the clutch compartment cover, what normally causes them to stick, and whats the right way to fix it??THANKS!

that would be all part of a complete restoration, disassembly.moisture causes rusting and sticking.to fix it right disassemble and see whats needed.such as new disc, resurfacing flywheel, renew or resurface pressure plate. replace pilot brg. check and or replace throw out brg. and check on rear seal. usually coupler to trans shaft has worn bolts and holes.

Rustred is correct if it is the old clutch. If it is new, just sitting with it engaged can rust it tight in many cases. I would head it out of the building, put it in 2nd or third and start it with the clutch blocked down. It might take some brake application to get it free, but it will probably do so. If it is not running, put it in high gear, block the wheels /lock the brakes, and block the clutch down. Then use the starter to bump (brief 1/2 second application of starter) the engine several times to shock the disk loose from the F/W. Jim.
