More starting issues! 1948 Farmall H

Ok, so I fixed the starter issue, and now it turns over just fine.

I just installed my professionally rebuilt carb and the tractor will still not start. The tractor has ran in the past few days, but it was not correct what so ever. So I figured it was the carb, and I replaced it.

What else should I look for as to why it wont start?

You need to see if there's fire to your sparkplugs. Pull off a plug wire and hold it about 1/4" away from the plug have someone make an attempt to start the engine. If you don't have fire to your plugs clean the points. You didn't post whether you have a mag or distributor. If you have a distributor you check for battery voltage at your coil. With the points open and your ignition switch in the on position you should have battery voltage on both small terminals on the coil. Use a volt meter or test lite and if there's no voltage present run a separate wire from the battery to your coil then see if the engine will start. A magneto doesn't require battery voltage. If it starts you have a wiring problem from the ignition switch to your coil. Could be you're not getting battery voltage to your switch. Use your volt meter to check it out. Hal

Pull off a plug wire as described earlier and see if you have fire to your plug. Make sure your kill switch is in the run position. You will also need a helper to make an attempt to start the engine. If there's no fire you need to clean the points using some 320 wet or dry until they're shiny. Hal

I just recently installed a mag tune up kit also. And gapped it to spec.

Did you remove the mag when installing the tuneup kit? The points should be set at .013" when the rubbing block is on the high point of the lobe. Have you checked for fire to your plugs? If there's no fire replace the condenser and check for fire again to your plugs.
If there's still no fire to your plugs your coil is probably weak or the magnets. The magnets need strong magnetism. Hal

Have you checked the gap on your plugs?? Another thing would be is to check for gas to the carb. How did you fix the starter problem out of curiousity??

No I havent checked the gap on the plugs, I guess I figured they would be pre gapped from a tune up kit. There is fire getting to the plugs, cause when I am trying to start the tractor, it will pop like its wanting to fire, and it may wanna run for a second then die.

I figured out my battery was very weak, even though it showed 6v, I would hit the starter button and it would drop to 1v. So I charged it and now its fine.

Have you ever removed the mag from the engine? You should remove No1 sparkplug near the radiator and bring No1 piston to TDC on the compression stroke. Hold your thumb over the plug hole and have someone to slowly crank the engine until you feel compression against your thumb. Then drop a plastic straw on top of the piston and watch that straw rise as the engine is slowly cranked. When the straw quits rising your engine should be at TDC on the compression stroke.

Pull the cap off the mag and see where the rotor is pointing. It should be at your No1 plug tower on the cap. Hal

I have removed it, but it I am 100% sure its retimed correctly.

Ok, well here is an update.

I adjusted the valves to correct specs, and figured out i wasnt correctly timed. I was 180 out on the magneto, and now it wants to run, but only for 5 or so seconds and then dies.

I bought a rebuilt carb, and it has a few leaks, so I am sure that may be the issue.
