Char Lynn on 400

Buddy has 400 with charlynn power steering. Never uses hydrauic remotes. Question is,can I route the hydraulic oil through the torque generator, and then through the hydraulic resovoir? Priority valve is bad. any thoughts appreciated. BErnie Steffen

Bernie - The steering motor cannot handle the full output of the 400's live pump. Feeding the motor directly from the live pump will damage the motor and/or cause the tractor hydraulics to overheat.

However as IH fan mentions aftermarket flow dividers are readily available (and affordable...!) thru TSC, etc.

Another good thing about the PFDV is the priority flow and steering do not change as the engine speed varies. If the priority is 4 or 5 gpm (guessing that's about what the PS will need), as long as the pump is putting out that much or more, that's what the PS gets.
I have one on my 240U and at an idle, I loose the 3 point, but still have steering. I have thought about plumbing it into my loader pump because it's bigger, but not sure the PFDV will handle the full flow when the engine is reved up. From experience working 25 years in the engineering lab of a hydraulics company, I know that a PFDV can be overloaded with flow and not respond as it should. It needs to be able to handle the full flow when the engine is at full rpm, and anything less than that will be okay.
