I"m stumped I have this carb that was rebuilt by a tractor shop, and I have rebuilt many of these myself. BUT this one is someting else. The tractor will only start if I cover up the air intake then when I remove my hand it runs rich but runs for a few sceonds( like 10 ) the die"s like it ran out of gas. I have great fuel flow to the carb. When I take it apart there seams to be a full bowl of fuel. The shop I took it to soaked it for 24 hour before rebuilding it. I have taken it apart and blew carb cleaner though ever where that is possible and then air through it also, so many times that I"m about to burn the darn thing. It just keeps doing the same thing every time. Thanks for any help Hardcase

Here is a few ideas. Take the drain plug out of the bottom of the bowl and make sure gas is running for at least a full minute, if it doesn t and you know you have good flow to the carb, then the needle valve is hanging up(or the float is adjusted wrong). If you have a rubber tipped needle valve throw it away and get a solid one(ethanol will swell them)but the biggest problem I find, is the made in China needles are too big and hang up in the seat, a little filling and polishing on the three sides of the needle will take care of that. Good luck, Kevin

(quoted from post at 02:45:10 08/06/10) Is there a plastic or brass venturi in there? It needs to go big end up, not small.

The venturi will fit only one way, and it is made of a die-cast material.

On my Marvel Schebler, it'll fit either way. One way the tractor runs fine, the other you need to choke it to get it to run at all. I must have taken that carb apart 10 times before someone here 'enlightened' me about it.
