PS Pump for Charlynn TG.

Hello,

I'm in the process of adding a Charlynn torque generator to my Super M, I have all the parts except the pump. I know I can use my live system with a priority valve but I would rather use the pump as I already have the brackets (the one that tucks up underneath the hood and uses a longer generator belt), that and the tractor's system need a little attention as well.

Anyway I've been looking at pumps and I was wonder if any of the older (50s) saginaw pumps with the round reservoir on top will work? The ones from GMs/Buick's etc all look somewhat alike but not all exactly the same (ie the bodies differ a bit).

I would hate to purchase one and have it not work.

Thanks,

K

Dad had a Char-Lynn TG installed on a JD 60 back in '58 and if I recall right, he was told it was the same as a GMC truck... maybe just because it looked that way to the dealer. I had a '55 Olds S-88 as a young guy and it looked the same, but not sure that it was. PS pump was bad on that car when I traded it and I know the pump went bad on the 60 after I left home... typical GM product I guess... some things never change.

You're on the right track. Olds, Buick, Cad pumps from mid 50's to 1960. They vary internally a little, and there are two different shaft outer bore dimensions, you might have to bore out your bracket for some of them. Mounting hole spacing is the same.
Basic o rings can be bought at any good seal place. Once in awhile a complete NOS kit with vanes and all comes up on ebay. Couple of companies in the U.S. do rebuilds on them, but pretty spendy.

Thanks guys.

I figured those pumps would work. Judging by the pictures the flange and the pulley offset all looked about the same, it's just the bodies looked different. I guess when it comes down to it as long as it pumps it should work...

I guess I might have to take the plunge and order one. I have a wide front on the SM and it's a bear to turn.
