Farmall M hydraulic fluid

Dan, Use SAE 30 non-detergent motor oil which won't foam like a detergent will. I usually find it at the farm and home type stores unless you have a very good auto parts chain in your area of Oregon. 6 quarts should be the correct amount per the owners manual. If you are lucky the original dipstick will still be on your tractor beneath the filler cap, Hal.

Actually, you can put just about anything in there and it will work, but if you put "Hy-Tran" or the equivalent in it, it will be compatible with the hydraulic systems on any of your other tractors.

If you don't see a dip stick then tape a small bar magnet to a wire and jab it down into the filler pipe. You might get lucky and pull one out.
when I repaired mine I found one standing upright in the filler pipe.

his is true BUT, keep in mind that these tractors are 50+ years old and seals which can contain 30 wt engine oil might not be up to the task on hytran. Our M leaks alittle and we didn't have any 30 wt around. Put hytran in it. With 30 wt it leaked alittle, but it leaks ALOT with hytran! So keep that in mind as well. If she's a leaker hytran isn't gonna help it any.
