C won't start

My C is being stubborn. New 6v battery and the starter has been redone, but it still won't start. We pull it a very short distance and it starts right up. I overhauled it this spring and it was starting then. Any thoughts?

You need to measure the battery voltage at the battery when cranking for a start. Your battery voltage may be too low for the ignition when using the starter. When you pull start it you're not draining the battery. You could probably hand crank it and make it start. Hal

You may need 00 battery cables and don't make them any longer than necessary. I would use use soldered lugs. Old welding cable make good battery cables. Hal

More info needed: does it turn over, but too slowly to start it? ...or does it simply not turn over at all? If it turns over well but doesn't catch, it may be the timing is just a tad off, turning over slow could be the battery cable issue, could be a voltage regulater/charging issue, sometimes those 6v batteries have been sitting around so long before you buy them, they go bad fairly quick. If it's not turning over at all you could be shorting out somewhere or the selonoid could be bad, or you could have a problem with the starter drive meshing with the ring gear, or as stated...the battery.

Does the rotor line up with the tower when it fires.Remove a plug and hook up the wire and fround the plug then you can tell if it fires when engine is tdc. If you have a mad you can time the rotor.

Had a similar thing with my 300. Went to new starter, cables, ignition, separate dedicated ground wire direct to the battery. Nothing worked. Finally went to 12V and have been loving it ever since.
