656D T/A making whining noise

My 1973 International Utility 656D's T/A is starting to make a whining noise in the "T/A" mode. When I switch it to Direct Drive, the whine goes away. The T/A works perfectly in both T/A and DD, except for the whine.

Does anyone have any ideas as to this noise?

Thanks in advance!

Ran two different 706s when I was a kid. Pull the torque back on one of them turning 2150 RPM in L3 pulling 5 14s in red clay. Whine? Baloney, sounded like a jet turbine reving up.

The 706 has a completely different TA than a 656. The 656 uses a planetary gear set to obtain the speed reduction. The 706 just uses different gear ratios for the low and high sides.

I did not realize this, learn something new daily, just remember them old gassers really screaming when pulling a plow in heavy soil.
