I have been trying to restore a C to the best condition i can. I have some questions i hope you guys can awnser:
Is there anything to do about rusting rear rims, the tires contain a calcium solution for weight and i am wondering if there is some product you can use to stop the rusting.
When I start the tractor the starter will turn it over but it will slip off the flywheel gears and it has ground them down some, is there anything i can do to stop this?

Remove the calcium, sand blast and cover the inside with epoxy primer. Cover the epoxy on the outside with a silver gray paint. If you need the weight there are substitutes for calcium chloride. The gear on the end of the starter can be replaced, and the ring gear replaced or reversed.

James, I had some calcium issues on the rims of my Farmall H which I restored a couple of years ago and I had them sandblasted and coated the inside of the rims with that spray in bedliner material which is really durable but I didn't have any major corrosion issues to deal with. The epoxy primer as noted by Charles will be fine as well. A lot of folks around this part of the country where additional weight is needed for tillage or loader work use the winter time windshield washer fluid which isn't corrosive and won't freeze being about the same weight as water and not very expensive either. Good luck in your restoration efforts as those C's and Super C's are great little Farmalls, Hal.

Remove the tires and sand blast then you will see if they are worth saving. Prime and paint and no fluid when putting tires back. Your ring gear is probably shot. Remove the starter and turn engine over with the crank to check the teeth if they are bad split the tractor and remove the ring gear turn it over and get the good side towards the starter been done many times.

2 summers ago i had the tractor spit to install a freeze cap, the tractor had been used heavily for years and then sat in the woods for 15yrs the ring gear was in perfect condition when i spit it wasnt until i put it back together it started to grind the gear.

I'm not sure of the name of it, but there is a local supplier here that sells a 100% non-corrosive fluid and is 100% bio-degradeable. It's beat juice. like I said I can't remember the technical name for it. Weighs about 11 lb per gallon roughly and they swear by it. I'm sure there are others as well.
E-mail me and I'll give you this local shops number and you can find out more about it in your area.
