Farmall 706 turns over but won't start

I have a Farmall 706 (gas) that turns over fine, but it won't start. It seems like it wants to start, but it won't. Gas is getting to the carburetor (I had it cleaned). Distributor cap, rotor, and points have been replaced. The solinoid to the carbureator has been replaced. What now?

Pull off a plug wire and hold it away from the sparkplug about 1/4". Then have a helper to make an attempt to start the engine. If there's no fire rub the points with a piece of 320 wet or dry then see if the engine will start. If it starts you've found the problem. If there's still no fire to the plug you need to use a volt meter to see if you have battery voltage at your coil with the points open. You need the ignition switch in the on position too. Look at those points if they're pitted replace them and the condenser.

Run a separate wire from your battery to your coil then see if the engine will start. Hal

Check the ignition coil resistor. If it is open the engine will start when the starter is cranking but will die when start solenoid releases.

Only two things will prevent one of these old engines from running . . . gas or spark. Sounds like you have the gas all checked out. I suggest you do as one of the other posters suggests, check to see if you have a spark.
