1954 International Harvester Super C Ignition Switch

I recently purchased a 1954 International Havester Super C tractor. It runs great, but the ignition switch was bad so I have to manually crank it. I decided to replace the ignition switch which has a ballister connected to it with a universal ignition switch that has no ballister. Know Im trying to figuire out which wires from the tractor connect to which post on the back of the universal ignition switch. HELP!

Are you replacing the LIGHT SWITCH:

Or the IGNITION SWITCH:

BTW, if you are working with the ignition system, the term for the resistor is BALLAST resistor.

Used to be a Walter Wallace that was the John Deere/Buick/GMC dealer in Manchester, Iowa back in the '40s/'50s... any relation? Dad bought a GMC pickup in '49 and a JD 60 in '53 plus several other implements from him.

The ignition switch is a push pull knob at the dash box.
The starter switch is on the starter.
(it would cause you to need to crank it)

The ignition coil is near the distributor. The coil main wire goes to the center of the distributor cap, the Plus goes to distributor side small terminal if positive ground, and the negative side small wire goes to the distributor if it is negative ground.

The starter switch (if stock) has two wires only connected to the battery cable terminal.

If it has seen rewiring, there is going to ne issues that need your full understanding of the names of things (without malice) This link should do the trick. Jim

I replace the starter swith, but appears the starter switch plunger when pressed in, is not making contact with the copper contact on the starter. Can this part be replaced.

yes it can be replaced its a very easy fix you just have to take the screws off and replace the assembly
