super a rebuild

I got a 49 super a that belonged to my grandfather that my dad owned for 20years and by the looks of it it was a hard 20. The only redeeming feature were the new tires on the back. It had been converted to a battery ignition system and at some point the battery exploded and it sat for a couple of years. Its almost disassembled with many parts stripped and painted. It came with a full set of cultivators which I'm told are not easy to find. I'm to the point I need to pull the final drives off and replace the seals. Can someone tell me what size rear end seals I need and where I can get them from. I'd like to have them on hand when I get into it so I won't have to stop and research them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Have you checked with your local Case/IH dealer?
You could go ahead and pull the final drives and remove the seals then look for the seal number as your local Napa store may be able to cross-reference them. Hal

I think I'll try the dealer first if I can find one. CNGCO has seals for sale online but I'm afraid they won't be the right thing. One other thing,do you have to fill the pan on the final drive with gear oil before installation. I can't find a filler plug or anywhere to check the oil level.

Select any location, scroll to bottom & select "agricultural division", click on "look up your own parts", select store again, type in Super A & look for your part.

The fill plug is on the final drive above the pan. You can look up any part for your tractor on www.caseih.com. Any bearing/seal dealer can cross the IH number to what they sell, or you can pay the CaseIH price, which will be higher. However, my bearing dealer has rather high shipping charges if he does not have it in stock, which cancels out the price advantage if you are getting only one or two parts. NAPA is also a possibility.

I got all my seals from NAPA when I redid my 140. They should be able to get you what you need.

I have had good success with using seals from Napa. There is a link on the napa online site that you can use to look up the seal. It will cross reference the current IHC number to the current NOS Napa (NOS being Napa Oil Seal) number.

I usually go to the CIH web site, and get the current CIH part number. I then use that part number in the Napa online search.

I have gotten all the seals I have used so far on my 1942 H, and they have all worked great.

as always, IMHO.
