When you put the motor in the bracket where the gauges are is there some sort of shims to make it line up with the shaft. I have the proper wobble joint connector but when you start drawin the bolts down it puts a strain on it.Any one with a picture of whats right? Just dont want to knock out the seal. Thanks

It's round and wedge-shaped as in thicker on one side than the other since the steering shaft is angled different than the bracket.

There was a replacement gauge bracket that came with the char lyn kit. SOme guy on ebay has them and I think OEM has them now also.

If you will go to Steiners web sight they have the bracket that is right for the M's. I used one in the spring for my '53 Super M. The mounting holes that form a triangle - the 2 at the top are threaded for 3/8 nc and the one at the bottom is for a regular 3/8 bolt and nut - but the bottom hole did line up and I used a grade 5 5/16 nc. What I understand if the shim is for the H - my M did not require the shim. James
