M light Switch question

Farmall M,,,, rewiring 12V conversion,,, below the head light switch is a resistor ?,,, what is it for ?.

My way to get around adding a button are switch to excite and turn off the alternator and turn on/off the voltmeter is to add a switch activated by oil pressure,,, customer does not want any added switch/button

The resistor was used to provide a low charge circuit for tractors that used generators with a cut out switch. You don't need it with an alternator or generator with voltage regulator.

The oil pressure switch is nice for tractors with magnetos. Rather overkill for one with battery ignition. For those a diode is easier.
 

Its a mag set up,,, thanks for clearing the other issue up,, that's the way it looked when I opened it up,,, the yellow wire leads to know were,,, I do need a junction to tie a few wires together so mite use one end of if for a junction....
