430T All Twine (billhook issue on RH knotter)

LH knotter works great and rarely misses a bale. RH billhook will not close all the way after the tying cylce is completed. I"ve adjusted the closing cam spring tension according to the book with no resolve, it appears that the roller on the bill hook is not going into the face of the closing cam and is "riding on the edge or lip of the cam instead of going inside it"? Too little pressure on the closing cam results in the billhook roller going behind the closing cam and the knot untied. The closing cam is a brand new part as well...Any advice would be appreciated

I've got an IH 46 baler and the best thing I ever did was to buy the manuals. I don't know if a 430 is the same knotter as a 46 but on the 46 there is a track the wheel of the bill hook runs down to make it close and I have had mine get outside of that track and then there is nothing to force the bill hook closed. I also know on mine I can adjust the tension and I don't know if it can be so loose the bill hook doesn't close.

Yes sir, i have the books, and my 430T (All twine) sounds the same in design, and yes, if the closing cam is too loose, the bill hook won"t close and will also try to go behind the cam instead fo inside it? Thanks.

Hi Bford74, you are referring to part number 667563R2, CAM, knotter jaw closing. Had a similar problem on a 46 knotter. The problems were, first the Cam was binding in the mounting slot in the knotter frame and sometimes the Cam would hang up in the mounting notch in the knotter frame, second the Cam did not have the proper shape, the curved part that contacted the roller on the bill hook was not making proper contact for the tie cycle.
Had to use acetylene torch to heat and make it the same as the good knotter.

So compare bad Cam with good one.

One other thing to look at is if the roller on bill hook is bumping the underside of the needle during the tying cycle. I have ground out a little extra clearance on some needles, don't remember if they were on the all twine models or previous knotters. I like to keep them needles close to disks so that is why I ground needle rather than adjust it a little higher.
