I replaced the regulator on my H with an OEM part that I managed to track down used the archives here to iliminate all other problems, polarised after fitting and on start up the tractor was charging imeadeatley. Question now is amp meter shows 18amps charge at over half throttle even after an hour of running only drops when you reduce revs increase revs and up goes the charge I no this is normall on start up but after an hour I would have expectecd the charge to go down battery would be quite low also I noticed generator quite hot ie can barley put your hand on it is this normal.Thanks

WHAT is the charging voltage measured across the battery terminals?

(It's impossible for anyone to give you an intelligent answer without knowing that.)

Voltage at 3/4 throttle with battery charged: 6v system min 7.1 max 7.3
12v system min 14.2 Max 14.6
If more than these, it will boil the battery dry.
A field wired to ground will do it, as will a bad VR. Jim

HI back a generator today battery voltage 6.3 battery voltage engine running 8.6 is this to high? also generator casing very hot Ie can barley put hand on it.
