Using 3pt As Draw Bar

I have an H with a aftermarket 3pt and no standard draw bar, it has a lot of movement when used now. Any suggestions for a bolt on to stiffen up the 3pt to use for draw bar? Pictures or drawing would be great. I have attached a picture.

Most of those aftermarket 3 point hitches allow you to keep the original horseshoe drawbar in place. I think that is the only thing that will work. At least it will be the simplest solution.

Once you have the drawbar installed, tighten up those sway chains so it can't swing back and forth.

I'll trade you my drawbar and hitch setup! Lol, as others said. Just tighten the chains once the bar or impliment is hooked up. My Ford 640 is the same way, once I hook something up I tighten the chains so the 3pt can't sway around.

you can call saginaw,he sell you a set of swaybars for that unit, they bolt on and you can ajust with set screw on side to desired size ,not to expensive 1810-638-5787

I have used turnbuckles with pin clevice in each end to tighten the chains. 1/2" threads on the turnbuclke works well. Jim

The only problem with using 3pt draw bar is if you are pulling an implement where you have to do sharp corners the 3pt draw bar will limit on the tongue of the implement. Also on PTO implement must make sue 3pt lever can not be raised will draw bar is installed. Also if no down pressure on 3pt draw bar must be lower than the mid point 3pt lift height or 3pt will go up when being pushed down a hill by a wagon. Older Fergusons had sway bars plus bars that went to top link pin that held 3pt draw bar solid.

Consider installing the original swinging drawbar for an H which hooks up under the tractor's belly and then attach it at the back to the existing cross member of your three point hitch with a strap underneath attached with two heavy bolts. If you shorten the now non-swinging drawbar by 3 to 4 inches you will find it about the right length for drawn implements. Might be necessary to beef up the cross member a little so it can support a little more tongue weight.
