I was watching it last night and saw a couple of older faramlls in a couple of the scenes. I think they where regulars but not sure. Did any body else see the show?? What where the tractors?

I dont know either but how many of you guys think it would make a good (cool) show going around finding old tractors and rare machinery sitting there rusting away.Call it Tractor Pickers...Id watch it.

I saw enough during the one cut scene to determine that one was a mostly complete F30 (two bolts in bellhousing), couldn't tell what was behind it.

american pickers is a show on the history channel that these 2 guys go around america picking through peoples barns etc looking for old things etc to buy and resell as "antiques"

(quoted from post at 17:37:19 07/20/10) Pardon my ignorance, but I didnt see the show. What was it about??

Been meaning to ask my nephew if he knows them... they are in a little town in Iowa near the Quad Cities and that's in his patrol area.
I have seen several of the shows where they just walk right past old tractors and implements without even looking at or mentioning them... kind of dumb!! One show they were actually climbing over the top of a couple of old tractors to get to "junk", totally ignoring the good stuff.

You guys probably know that if there was a show on tractor picking the pickers would want everything you have and you wouldn't sell them anything. :) Allan.

First and foremost, these guys are out to MAKE MONEY. You can't make money on antique tractors...

They want small, easily transportable stuff that they can turn around quickly. Stuff for homes, restaurants, etc.. Old farm tractors just don't fit that business model.

Besides, it's obvious they're both motorcycle nuts. They're not into tractors. That's good for us because they will leave the old tractors alone so we can go "pick" them.

Not a thing wrong with being a motorcycle nut I know since I have 3 on the place right now and at one time had 5 or 6 of them. As for money and old tractors yes there is money to be made with them but not the way the economy is right now. But right now the only way to make money is to be in gov office or be one who is getting bailed out by the gov.

They had a Studebaker hauled, I believe, from Indiana and a Plymouth coupe from somewhere, so they are not totally against hiring a trucker. It looks like they could at least be asking about price or if these tractors are for sale. Same goes for some smaller implements that could fit in their van.
I realize they are in if for profit, but they don't even ask, at least in what they show on the program. It would be interesting for them to just ask, so we could see what prices are like.
Another show would be "Pawn Stars" where a guy had a corn "husker" for sale. Really it was a hand corn sheller, but to show how it worked, the guy fed an ear of sweet corn thru it  !! City folks...

Yep saw that pawn stars show and all I could think way no one knew what it was. Corn Husker what a laugh and you would think some one would have done there home work before opening up there months on that corn sheller, which by the way I have one almost like it. As for the pickers I would think if they are for real they would list there phone number at some point on the show so a person could call them but guess they might need to hire 2 or 3 people just to answer the phones if they did show there number. I would love to call them and see if they would tell me how and who had many of those tractors and stuff

They don't even ask because they know there's a limited market for that stuff, and they can't make money on it...

...and I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but it just doesn't seem to be registering with people that just because THEY love antique tractors, the show has to cater to their interests.

IIRC it was the short bearded dude that fell in love with the Studebaker. I think that was for his own personal collection. Plus, cars hold a much wider appeal than old tractors, AND restoring antique cars can be profitable.

Now what would be cool is if RFD would come up with something similar. Call it "Fencerow Pickers" and follow tractor collectors around on their searches.

What would be even cooler is if Time Warner would give me RFD channel for free. Right now it's a "premium HD" channel, and it's like $5 extra a month... No thanks, when 90% of it is watching bulls trot across the screen with "things" flopping about...
