Distributor problems

Just got my Farmall 100 back from the paint shop. I'm having problems getting good spark to the points. Just installed new points and no improvement. I have good spark to the distributor post on the outside of the distributor. Any ideas? Thanks, Marv

Make sure your wires are not touching a ground
where your coil and condenser wires are connected at the points. Clean your new points with a q-tip dipped in alcohol. Hal

As Jim says the connector bolt that goes through the distributor housing needs to be insulated. There is a fiber washer with a raised ridge around its center hole that is intended to keep the bolt centered in the distributor hole. The first nut on the outside of the distributor that goes on the bolt is to keep the fiber washer in place and needs to be tight at all times. The second nut holds your electrical wire. Always hold the lower nut in place as you tighten or remove the top nut.
