Farmall A starter

Went to start my A to do a little mowing & the there was NOTHING when I pushed the starter. Took the starter off & it appeared that the bendix (? not quite sure of the exact name) wasn't recoiling back. So I spun it back & mounted the starter again. It started right up. Started it a couple more times & then it did it again. Is there anything I can do to "loosen" up the recoil in the starter? Would a little wd-40 help at all, or do I just need to get a new spring? Thanks

Spray some tri-flow, silicone in the rails the starter gear rides on. Moving the bendix back and forth a few times while spraying, should fix you right up. WD40 is ok just if that is all you have though too.

It is usually necessary to replace the starter drive to make it a permanent repair. A clutch type drive replaces the original and works better, longer. Jim
