A stephead pistons vs. flat head pistons

I'm thinking of swapping out flathead pistons for the stepped head for more compression. Does anybody know if there would be any issues in combustion chamber clearance if used with a distilate cyl. head? C-113 Distilate 1947 A model.

No problem with that set up and if ya want more then that ya got the room for the high alt. pistons .They are even a higher dome on them and make even more comp. That is what we have been putting in S/MTA's and 450's for a good while now . And if the great spirit ever moves me that is what will go into my S/H .

That will work. There are four different cylinder heads that will work on that block. They are 4 different compression levels to them.
I think the latest head that can go on it is a SC or Early 200 head. Are you putting new sleeves in to? That way it will be 123ci motor. Let me know how it works out for you.

The two engines i todown had the same heads but the pistons had a recess in the pistons. You can get hi-dome pistons that are have higher domes than the 8000 ones and use them with no problems at least i havent run into any. The RED POWER ones from my supplier have a much larger dome than the old 8000 ones. You will need a dist so you can adjust the timing so it will start as the mag fires on TJC.There was a directive from IH on that subject. So go ahead and get the hi-dome they will work.

Thanks so much ya'll! Yes, I'm gonna have to put new sleeves in. I've got one that is not gonna clean up. If i go and put all this "C-123" High Comp stuff in there I will need to install a waterpump, right?

Thanks Mr. Bender!! Great heads up there!! How do I find out about that directive? Best as I can tell It has the H4 Mag on it. Is there a specific distributor I should look for? Guess it would be a good time to go 12V too huh? LOL!

You can use the I-H ONE THATS USED ON LATER MODELS H,M,SC,SA,and up. Abeline Tractor parts are the supp;iers. Used to get them from Howard Enterprise but now i have to go thru Abeline. Just got a set Sleeves, rings, pistone, rod and main bearings and gasket out of frame for 374 delivered to my door UPS 3.125 set. I do believe they have the tallest dome on the market. No need to go 12v just use 1ga cables a 725 batt and re-do the starter new brushes and maybe bearings. It will start and run without going12v.

Just look up ABELINE TRACTOR parts for your nearest dealer. I go thru the one in Bellmond,ia. You will be asked about the measurement on the bottom of the sleeve where the rubber seal goes Yours should be 3.300 unless the block has been changed to a later one. Mite want to have the i--h part# handy. Does your serial# on the block match the one on the seat bracket and what is the cast code. glad to help anytime.

There should be a cast code# on the block it will be a number thenan astrick then another number then another astrick then the letter Q take a wire brush and clean it good so you can read the code.my e-mail is open

Thats a good question!! The sleeve are still in the block yet. They have a IH #5586 D stamped into every one. On the pad on the RH front of the block (from seat) There is a 5051??. I do not think it matches the serial #.Im gonna have to double check that. It should match entirely??
