Propane H - Where to start?

Hi all, don't get here much since I don't have a red tractor, But.

A Farmer friend of mine has an H that has the propane conversion. It has been setting in the same place in the implement shed for some years and he keeps looking at it and wishes it were running. it has been tinkered with like the distributor is laying there with cap off and points out, that does not concern me. He has had this tractor for decades and used it for light work and running the grain auger. He says something went wrong with the propane system.

I have decided to offer to put it in my barn and get it cranked up but don't have a clue when it comes to propane.

I am looking for suggestionns like books, guides, troubleshooting instructions etc.

Where do you think I should start?

If you know someone who takes Green Magazine. A man by the name Dan Brotzman did an article on rebuilding the LP Converter in the June 2010 Issue. You can contact Dan at 1-715-823-7725 or email: [email protected]

If it has an Ensign regulator, remove the low pressure fuel hose and brass hose fitting at the 1/2" street elbow (cast) on the bottom. Poke a screwdriver in there and see if any rust comes out. If so, it is rebuild time. The partition plate that restrains the diaphram and the high pressure valve + spring are junk.

I screwed around with the regulator on my W-400LP. I spent over $100 and still needed more parts. I found a good regulator on eBay for $25 plus shipping. It works fine. That's the easy way out.

Or you could get a brand new forklift regulator on eBay for around $50. IMPCO or PNJ, Model J or G-J should work but I won't guarantee that. I just had to replace the old IMPCO on my Hyster. It was that easy and I am back to "heavy lifting".
