Mecum auction

Anybody ever attend a Mecum tractor auction? These are the guys that do the muscle car auctions on TV. They are running an auction in Walworth, WI on August 7th. Featuring a '54 MDV TA.

Not again.

That same tractor has been sold at auction at least three times in the last three years. I wonder if it still has the "paint curtain" on the left side of the fuel tank.

The first time it sold it went off at $45,000 in PA. I think the last sale was around $65,000-$70,000 but I'd have to check.

That tractor must have "TO". That's short for tractor odor.

So does anyone actually bid on the tractor or does the auctioneer just practice pulling fake bids out of the crowd as they stare in stunned silence?

Update, I called Mecum and this is their first venture into the world of tractors. I think I'll go as a spectator. It's less than an hour away for me.

Ed Leaman says that 55 were built. 52 were exported. Presumedly to countries that crop sugar cane.

I was at the PA sale in Oct 06. It was a divorce settlement liquidation. It was a big auction run by Aumann Auctioneers. Lots of very rare machines. I was under the impression that it was purchased by someone from Europe who flew in for the sale.

Next I heard was that it sold for a loss a year later in IL. Don't know if that was an auction.

I believe that Aumann was asked to sell it for the third time several years ago. It sold at auction for about $70,000. Does Aumann play games. I have no idea. Seems like a nice guy.

Now it may be that this tractor is not the same one. Of those 52 exports, some may have been repatriated and refurbished to sell here. Search on "Super MDV-TA" at Red Power Forum for more info.
