calling Allan in NE, hydro question

Hi, I have a 1973 model 1066 hydro with the newer style transmission housing. The steering lines run from the ports on the mcv valve in the old style way. #1 does it matter and #2, should I switch the hoses to the way they should be. The steel lines are gone and replaced by rubber and could be easily switched.
Thanks,
Tom

This is WAY, WAY over my head and I will differ to the smarter folks on this board like Tractor Vet, Owen Aaland, Pete 23 and others who have "been there, done that".

I do know that the mcv governs priority for the steering, so a guy would probably want them hooked correctly.

However, does the steering work okay without starving? There's an old rule: If it ain't broke don't fix it. :>)

You sure you're not talking about the cooler ports now are ya?

I just got the tractor, been tinkering with it when I have time. Steering is very weak and transmission power seems not up to par. I just wondered if having those lines the wrong way could somehow backup some flow or something. I changed the filters, fluid seems clean but I plan to drain it and change it. The flow divider was installed upside down when I checked it and the spring was wrecked. I got a new spring and and put it back together and I thought sure that would have fixed it. Steering is better, before power steering was nonexistant but it steered manually. Hopefully others can chime in if they have knowledge. I was just reading the forums and you had made a lot of hydro posts so I thought you were the guru :)

I will look in my service manual later, then I can probably give you some direction here. All I can say right now is that the supply side line coming out of flow divider has to go to the in port on steering hand pump. I can't quite remember just how they changed the routing on earlier and later models, just remember they did with the T fitting etc.

Here is a pic of how is is routed now.

I can not see any thing wrong with that hook up, all I can say it the top line is the one feeding power steering hand pump and lower is return from steering. As these lines hook into the housing and not directly to hand pump one would have to trace to make sure the top one actually supplies fluid to in port of hand pump.
