Farmall B hand lifts

Got to look at a Farmall B today. It had 2 hand lifts, one attached to a belly mower. I couldnt believe how hard it was to raise it. I cant imagine that the cultivators would be much lighter. Was hand lifts really hard to use on cultivators, mowers, ect?? I told the guy, Id sure hate to be cultivating 10 acres with the lifts being so hard to raise.

I have a B with a hand lift cultivator. The lever is spring loaded to help lift. It is harder to put the cultivator in the ground than to lift it.

Your last sentence is a bit odd. I have a 2 row horse cultivator that I used a long time ago, and it was W A Y easier to raise than that mower was yesterday, AND, tho, ive got to agree, if I tried to put the cultivators in the ground at the outside end of the field, it was hard, but once it got into where the corn was and ground that had been plowed, disced, they generally dropped right in. I guess, tho, I would have to agree with you. BUT, If the schovels hadnt been lifted by the time I was back at the other end of the field, and I was out where I turned around, where the ground was hard, it was hard to raise them there also.

All the hand lifts had adjustable springs to balance the load. The mower is supposed to have a spring to help lift also it just wasnt there and you did no know that nor did the seller or it would have been there.
