My IT manual says the liftall takes 6 qts of oil.Can this be right that doesnt seem like very much oil? There doesnt appear to be any check plugs or am i just not seeing them?

should be a dip stick on the filler cap. Sounds like yours is missing. I will have to check the manual for liquid capacity.

6 quarts is the right amount. Many dipsticks are lost, it seems to happen a lot on these. One way to do it is to remove the drain plug and empty the unit and then put in 6 quarts.

If I recall, 6" down from the cap neck will be full. it is very not critical. It is small, and for a loader with single acting cylinders, an auxiliary reservoir is used. T it into the bottom of the Liftall drain, and keep it about the same height, If using 2 way cylinders, the cap on the original reservoir can be non vented.
If using a bigger reservoir, that can be vented and higher than the original fill port if the original fill port is capped off W/O vent. Jim

The full mark on the dipstick of my '51 H Liftall is exactly 9.5" from the top of the fill pipe. As long as there is room in the reservoir when the cylinder is fully retracted, extra oil doesn't hurt anything but your wallet.
